Our Services
Review/Revise Syllabus
A syllabus - derived from specific learning objectives - is the foundation of a successful course. A syllabus defines course goals and methods, and helps instructors plan the most effective presentation of course content. In addition, a syllabus is a contract between faculty and students that details assignments and course expectations. As a written document, a syllabus presents fewer ambiguities than a spoken presentation.
At TSC, we work with faculty to ensure that their syllabus is purposeful, robust, and logically structured. Depending upon specific needs, TSC will review course objectives, classroom activities, homework assignments, and testing procedures – and make recommendations to improve course effectiveness.
Classroom Observation
In-person observation provides a holistic view of learning and teaching in the classroom. It also includes a study of the interactions taking place between the teacher and students as well as among the students themselves. In our experience, teacher observations that serve as vehicles for professional growth (rather than performance evaluations) have multiple benefits - for teachers, administrators, and the school.
At TSC, we realize that being observed in the classroom can rattle any teacher's nerves – so we make our visits as stealthy and unobtrusive as possible. We usually recommend having at least one session videotaped, so instructors can review their class and see themselves from a student’s perspective. Following a classroom observation, we meet with faculty to review their videotape and provide feedback and suggestions for improvement.
Presentation Skills Training
Strong presentation skills are an essential ingredient for creating a dynamic, engaging classroom experience – yet many instructors arrive in the classroom with little or no formal presentation skills training. At TSC, we help clients develop a presentation style that suits their individual goals and personality. Then, we help clients enhance their effectiveness by leveraging strengths and bolstering weaknesses.
Our training includes, but is not limited to:
• Managing Fear and Anxiety
• Speaking with Clarity
• Non-Verbal Communication
• Designing Effective Visual Aids
• Responding to Difficult Questions
With TSC, instructors learn how to use their voice and body language to create strong, lasting impressions. They improve their ability to bond with students, and to comfortably handle impromptu remarks. As a result, instructors emerge with a new sense of confidence, and the skills needed to take control of any classroom environment.
